Last May, Texas Governor Rick Perry signed into law an intrusive and patronizing bill that will prevent a woman from getting an abortion unless she first has an ultrasound and listens to her doctor describe the image in detail—even if she says NO.
The Center successfully blocked the law from going into effect. But on January 10, 2012, a federal court overturned this victory.
This ruling is utterly without precedent. Until now, every court that has reviewed similarly intrusive laws has declared them unconstitutional because they violate the First Amendment rights of women and doctors alike. It’s extreme and intrusive and it patronizes the women of Texas.
